What are the SEE and NCE Learner SmartBanks?

The SEE Learner SmartBank and the NCE Learner SmartBank are available exclusively for APEX Student Review Course users within the TrueLearn platform, the parent company of APEX Anesthesia. Each SmartBank is built for its own exam, and the two contain completely separate questions, so studying for the SEE won’t use up your NCE questions.

• SEE Learner SmartBank: 500+ board-style questions mapped to the SEE Exam Content Outline, with 100 questions added each month until the bank reaches 800 by the end of the year. Answer up to 1,740 questions during your subscription.
• NCE Learner SmartBank: 1,350+ board-style questions mapped to the NCE Content Outline. Answer up to 5,049 questions during your subscription. This SmartBank was previously called the NCE/SEE Learner SmartBank.
• 170-Question NCE Assessment: an add-on to the NCE Learner SmartBank that simulates the NCE. Learn more here.

You’ll gain access to the item types* seen on exam day and be able to create custom quizzes and practice testing in a simulated environment to increase your readiness for exam day. You can also study on the go with the TrueLearn mobile app, available from the iOS and Android app stores.

Each SmartBank tracks your performance and surfaces your content area strengths and weaknesses, so you know where to focus your studies. Your performance dashboard shows your individual category performance and national percentile.

The SmartBanks are not included in the APEX Student Review Course, and you must have an active Student Review Course to purchase one. Students can go here to purchase the SEE Learner SmartBank, the NCE Learner SmartBank, or both, or to start a free 5-day trial of the NCE Learner SmartBank.

How do I access my SmartBank for the first time?

If you purchase a SmartBank, you can activate it when you’re ready to start studying, and you’ll have 1 year of access to each SmartBank after activation. Once your access begins, you will receive a welcome email from noreply@truelearn.com, which will include instructions on how to access your account.

If your program provides your SmartBank subscription (typically in the final year of school, but inquire with your program director to find out for sure!), you will receive the same welcome email when your access begins. Program subscriptions do not include the SEE Learner SmartBank, which is available for individual purchase only.

How do I navigate between the Student Review Course and my SmartBank?

Once you log into your APEX account, you will see “My SmartBank” in the left-hand navigation menu. 

If you log in directly to TrueLearn using your APEX credential, then you will automatically access the NCE/SEE SmartBank upon logging in. 

To navigate back to the Student Review Course, click the “APEX Courses” in the left-hand navigation menu.

Are the SmartBank questions and the APEX Student Review Course content integrated?

Yes! These resources are integrated. Below are a few ways in which you can navigate between the two as you are utilizing each resource.

The Student Review Course curriculum, along with the NBCRNA’s NCE/SEE Bibliography, is cited within the references section of the question explanations. Note the specific APEX Tutorial, then click the hyperlink to navigate to the Student Review Course. You can then locate that tutorial and continue learning.

You can also access the NCE/SEE SmartBank from within the APEX Student Review Course as well. From the APEX homepage, click the “Quick Create a Test Now” link in the NCE/SEE SmartBank section.

This will open the NCE/SEE SmartBank in your browser and take you to the “Create New Test” page in the TrueLearn platform.

Within each APEX unit, you will also see the NCE/SEE SmartBank section. 

Clicking the “Create Test on Unit #” links will open the NCE/SEE SmartBank up in your browser and take you to the “Question Search” page in the TrueLearn platform. Here, the APEX Student Review Course Unit that you were in will be preselected in the categories dropdown to show relevant questions. Click the “Create Test” button once you have checked the boxes next to the questions you want to include in the test.

Your program determines the exact dates that learners have access to the NCE/SEE SmartBank, and all learners will gain access at the same time. If you have any questions about your access timing, please reach out to your program directly.
