Accessing CPC Core Modules Post Tests and FAQs

Accessing CPC Core Modules Post Tests and FAQs

How to Access Post Tests

To access your post-tests, click My Courses in the left-side navigation menu when logged into your APEX account. You can open a Module by clicking the course icon or link:

Lessons

In Step 1, you will see “Lessons”. The AANA requires that we provide one hour of content per course credit. Our CPC Core Modules include 23 Class A credits. Therefore, you will have over 23 hours of course content in the four CPC Core Modules. It is important to note that you can consume this content at your own pace, and you can choose from three different learning formats (downloadable PDFs, audio, or video). To access the different learning formats, you will need to click on the “Lesson” title.

Click the down arrow that displays in the far right portion of the Lessons section to expand it.

Lessons will be broken down into the following sections.

Instructions

  • How to Complete Your Lessons

Supplemental Materials

  • Download PDF’s
  • CPC Program: Everything CRNA’s Need to Know
  • Study Guide (You can keep this open in a second browser while taking your post tests open-book)

Lessons

  • This will contain all of the lessons to prepare you for the post-test you will be taking

Practice Quiz

  • This quiz can be taken prior to your post-test to further help you prepare.  This is optional, and will not provide any Class A Credits. The Optional Practice Quiz can be taken an unlimited number of times throughout your subscription period.
  • You can check the boxes once you have completed them to track your progress.

Post-Tests

In Step 2 you will see “Post-Tests.”

Click the down arrow that displays in the far right portion of the Post-Tests section to expand it.  Under “Supplemental Materials”, you will see the Study Guide.  Under “Post-Tests (Complete ALL Parts to Earn Your Class A Credits)”, you will see the Post-Tests.

To begin the post-tests, you will start with Part 1.  Click the title link to open the post-test.

You will see an overview of the post-test, which will show you how many parts are included in the post-test and the number of questions.

Important Information:

  • The NBCRNA requires 10 post-test questions per hour of Class A credit, which can make for a long post-test! To make the post-tests more manageable, we divided each Core Module post-test into several parts.
  • The AANA allows for three attempts at each post-test.  You will need to pass each post-test part with a score of 80% or higher to move on to the next part.
  • You can only be logged into one device when taking a post-test.  If you are logged into more than one device, your results will not be reported to our database, and the post-test will need to be retaken.
  • The CPC Core Module post-tests are NOT timed, however, you will want to be sure that your browser and device do not time out while you are taking your post-test.
  • You cannot save your progress on a post-test. You may, however, take the different parts of a post-test at different times within your subscription period.
  • The NBCRNA has strict rules that you can’t review the post-tests or answers to missed questions on the Core Module post-tests (CRNAs are allowed to review their Post-Tests in all of our other courses).

How to Take Your Post-Test Open-Book

  • Option 1: Open the study guide in a second browser window and review the content as you take your post-test.
  • Option 2: Open the study guide as a PDF file and review the content as you take your post-test.

You can search for any word on a webpage or PDF with a keyboard shortcut. These commands open a search box in your browser (upper right). After you enter a word in the box and press enter, it will take you to every place where that word appears on the page.

  • Mac: Click command + F. Enter the keyword and press enter. This will bring you to the word on this page.
  • Windows: Click control + F. Enter the keyword and press enter. This will bring you to the word on this page.

Submitting a Post-Test

Once you have answered all of the questions in a post-test, click “Finish Quiz” at the bottom to submit it.

After completing the first part of a post-test with a passing score, you may then move on to the next part.

Are post-tests timed?

The post-tests are not timed, however, you will want to be sure that your browser and device do not time out while you are taking your post-test.

Why can’t I start my post-test?

If a post-test does not automatically populate at the bottom of the page, it is usually due to one of the following:

  • You already passed the post-test and received credit for it.
  • You failed the post-test 3 times

You can review your post-test scores on the Progress Report page.  A green certificate icon will display for each post-test you have passed.

Can I resume a post-test I started after leaving the page?

Post tests should be completed in one sitting. You can navigate away from your browser during a post-test, however, if you close out of the browser or the system times out (which happens after two hours of inactivity) your post test answers will not be recorded and you will need to begin again.

Post-tests that were not finished/submitted will not be counted as one of your three attempts.

Can I review the questions I missed if I fail any part of the post-tests?

You can review the answers to any missed questions in our Back to Basics and CRNA Updates courses, however, the NBCRNA has strict rules that prohibit you from reviewing the answers to missed questions on the Core Module post-tests.

Can I retake a Post-Test I have failed?

The AANA allows for three attempts at each post-test. A score of 80% or better is required to pass a post-test.

How can I know that the questions in post-tests are accurate and fair?

To ensure that our post-test questions are fair and meet a quality benchmark, we must submit our Core Module post-test questions to the NBCRNA for item analysis.

Why is my post-test password protected?

  • Post-tests approved for credit are NOT password protected.
  • If you are required to add a password, you are in the wrong location and likely trying to access the section labeled “APEX ADMIN USE ONLY (NO ACCESS).”
  • If you click on “APEX ADMIN USE ONLY (NO ACCESS),” you will see post-tests with expired AANA approval numbers. The AANA does not allow CRNAs to take post-tests after the associated AANA approval number expires.
  • These expired (old) post-tests have been locked with a password to prevent you from accessing them in error.
  • We maintain that the old post-tests remain in compliance with the AANA.

How long does it take to complete the CPC Core Modules Post-Tests?

  • Completing a Post-Test for the CPC Core Modules takes a bit longer than completing the post-tests for our other courses, since the NBCRNA requires that we have 10 questions per credit instead of the standard 5.  Since this increases the length of the post-tests, we have them broken down into smaller sections.
  • The time it takes to complete the modules varies by person, but most are able to comfortably complete the Post-Tests for all of the CPC Core Module post-tests in about a day.

Credit Reporting

  • If you are an active AANA member, and your AANA number has been added to your account,  we will automatically report your credits to the AANA Monday – Friday during normal business hours. Please note, reporting credits is a manual process for our team and can take 3 business days from completion for them to appear.
  • If you are not an active AANA member, you can print your credit transcript to submit to the NBCRNA.
